About

Work

My art is developed around movements and feelings that I expresses through the use of contrasting colours and textures.

I take my inspiration from the contrasts and similarities of crowded and fast pacing cities, and the solitude and stillness of the nature. I like to be surrounded by people in the chaos of urban life, but at the same time I love to take time in nature, especially close to a river or to the sea. Water is a central element in my work as I relate to its state of energy and of stillness.

When I paint, I feel I can get in touch with my inner-self and I get to explore a little deeper. I generally don´t plan my paintings beforehand so that I can just let me guide by instinct. In this way, I am able to get a bit out of myself and become a spectator of my own process.

Abstract art is for me an aesthetic, but also therapeutic form of expression. It allows the painter, and sometimes even the observer, to let go of everyday rationality and to get in touch with feelings. This sort of inner analysis has helped me overcome difficult moments and to save beautiful ones onto the canvas.

About Alice

I was born in Torino in a cold and snowy day of December.

As an only child I learned to play alone. I remember spending my time drawing, and looking at my grandma making food.

As a kid our flat was full of handmade art and prints of famous paintings. I used to spend hours looking at a big poster of the Guernica and I was attracted by Miro´s abstract painting over the dining table. But, probably the artist I loved the most was Claude Monet and his blue water lilies.

Growing up I have been exposed to art in different ways. Living in a city like Torino, I was influenced by the contrasts of beautiful baroque buildings and decadent areas full of street art.

I have always been drawn to art, but also intimidated by it. Choosing to work with art in Italy takes a lot of courage, given the precarious economic situation young people find themselves in. As a risk-averse person that I am, I kept my love for painting and drawing only as a hobby for 28 years.

I dedicated myself to a more scientific career, studying mathematics, statistics and economics. Thanks to my studies I have been able to travel and live in different cities, Oslo, New York and London.

Until few years ago I used to mostly draw black and white realistic portraits. Realistic drawings is for me a really beautiful exercise, but one that can be full of self doubt and inner critics. A few years ago, I felt the need to express myself freely and to enjoy abstract art. Inspired my my daily job I started experimenting with different colours, medium and techniques.
